Having your air ducts cleaned can significantly improve the air quality in your home. Poor air quality can cause many problems: headaches, dry eyes, allergies, and nasal congestion to name just a few. Dirty air ducts can act as a breeding ground to bacteria, germs, and molds. Poor air quality can also irritate asthma and emphysema.
The air being breathed inside the home is recycled air. Unfortunately, along with the air, dust and dirt are also being sucked into your system. Air ducts store a huge amount of allergens through dust, pet dander, and molds. Cleaning the ducts will help reduce these allergens.
The build up of dust and debris can affect the air flow, and greatly reduce the efficiency of your system and put unnecessary strains on the blower motor and other operating components. It is estimated that 25 to 40 percent of the energy is being wasted. When an HVAC system is clean, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain desired temperatures. All this can result in lower energy bills.
You can clean your home and eventually it will become dusty again. Think about it in these terms: All the dust you find on your furniture is the same dust that’s in the air, and the same dust you are breathing. The dust and/or debris you see inside your air ducts is being blown into your home every time your heating and cooling system is in operation. Although dust in the air can be a big cause of respiratory problems, the bigger problem is that you can’t tell what exactly it is that you see inside your air ducts. It could be simple dust or household dirt, but it could also be some sort of bacteria, fungus, or mold.
Insects and small animals can get into the duct work and die. The decaying bodies will give off a terrible odor. If you see any evidence of rodent activity in your air ducts, home air duct cleaning is a must! Rodent droppings can contain many types of harmful bacteria. Signs of rodents in your air ducts may include droppings or bits of fur. You may even hear movement inside the duct work. Cigarette and pet smells can also get sucked into the ducts and give off odors too.
